Aspen Square Courtyard
The popular Aspen Square hotel located just blocks from the gondola in downtown Aspen received a sophisticated and energetic architectural landscape update in 2008. The new lighting for the project needed to blend both the desirable low lighting levels typical of an intimate resort setting while meeting the safety of the public as it is accessible from both sides to the town of Aspen.
The dynamic new gathering areas created by the landscape architects included new water features as well as fire pits and an updated jacuzzi. Lighting solutions were designed for long life and included integrating energy efficient LED sources into the water features, railings and pavers. These effects were supplemented by low level halogen lighting delivered in low glare halogen path lighting fixtures as well as fiber optics. The unique fiber optic display with cone shaped yellow lanterns adorns the feature tree of the courtyard. It’s lights dance above the fire pit and present the idea of festivities all year long without looking seasonal.

Esquire Plaza
While constrained to local standards for lighting pedestrian walkways and the adjacent avenue, the owner of this building wished to create a unique presence at the gateway to Sacramento’s theater and shopping district.
In order to draw visitors into this newly rejuvenated area, the prominent art deco spire is illuminated with horizontal bands of cold cathode tubing. It becomes a place-marker and beacon reflective of the deco-theme of the surrounding plaza.
The interior lobbies carefully integrate lighting with architectural features becoming timeless decorative features.
San Jose Sharks Arena
The San Jose Sharks Arena was built to enhance the city’s image and boost revenue while serving as a forum for sporting events, entertainment and social/professional gatherings. This award winning design linked all usages of the stadium from sporting and club areas to retail spaces, offices, and conference rooms. The challenges in this project included the development of custom details and fixtures which would be both vandal resistant and adherent to the overall design theme. Throughout the project there is an overriding consideration for energy efficiency, maintainability and control system.
