Orpheum Theater

The historic Orpheum Theater in San Francisco’s theater district is a civic landmark from the 1890’s. The owner and architect wished to restore the theater to its former greatness while updating it for a contemporary audience. A detailed accounting of repair needed to restore more than 168 historic fixtures was undertaken by the lighting designers.

Sheraton Grand – Julia Morgan Marketplace Renovation

The introduction of a new 500 room hotel was combined with the renovation of a Historic Marketplace designed by architect Julia Morgan.

The Historic Renovation work creates a new interpretation of the marketplace while paying homage to the architecture and the architect. The lighting in this area is both highly suggestive of the marketplace theme and functional in its approach to lighting the 3 story atrium space. The atrium with its uplit open wooden trusses and a large scale glass panel montage is bathed in glowing light. The meeting rooms, ballrooms, bars and restaurants all adjoin this space.

The downtown location adjacent to the Sacramento Convention Center and the newly opened Esquire Plaza corporate offices targets the needs of the business traveler. The interior spaces are highly visible through the restored marketplace exterior. They beckon as a comfortable refuge from a long day spent at the convention center. The new tower adjoining the marketplace is fitted with articulated canopies at the entry and glass openings

Claremont Resort

This historic renovation and spa addition to had to met the expectations of the long adoring community. Careful integration architectural lighting ensured a warmth and attention to detail that the resort is known for. In the new spa addition compact fluorescent and other high efficacy sources were used to meet California’s stringent Title 24 energy code and were carefully planned to blend into the old world style.

This 1990 showcase residence was the first PG&E Energy Efficiency Showcase Home in California. It combined whole house HVAC computer and lighting software to help minimized energy usage. The lighting utilized efficacious halogen and fluorescent lamp technologies to decrease connected lighting load. Not only was the lighting designed for the permanent use of the home owners, it served the individualized showcase needs of each exhibiting interior designer in ASID’s Marin Designer’s Showcase.
